This is a Jacaranda tree, and one of my most favorite trees in the Southwest. Yes, they are gorgeous when they bloom in May but can be very messy when the purple blooms drop. We had one in the yard of our last house. This year I get to admire it from across the street.
We have a love hate relationship with trees here. None in our yard but every fall we have a ton to get up.
I think they blow into our yard intentionally.
